AAP: Traditional Owners on Ranger taskforce

Following an outcry, Aboriginal traditional landowners have been asked by the federal government to
join a taskforce investigating last week's toxic slurry spill at Ranger uranium mine in Kakadu.
The Mirarr people have been calling for an independent investigation of the incident, after saying they
had no faith in government regulators.
The federal Minister for Industry Ian Macfarlane and his NT counterpart have announced that an
independent expert will review the broader integrity of the processing plant operations.
A representative of Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation, which represents the Mirarr traditional owners,
will be asked to participate in the taskforce the federal government established following the spill
