2021 Mahbilil cancelled due to Covid-19

Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation has regretfully cancelled the Mahbilil Festival which was due to be held on Mirarr land in Jabiru later this year.

Mahbilil, which takes its name from the cooling late afternoon breeze Jabiru Wind Festival, the event has been run by the Mirarr through Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation for almost two decades.

This is the second year running that the popular and much anticipated annual festival has been cancelled due to the pandemic. As with so many Covid-19 related decisions this one has been declared with the safety of the community in mind. The health and safety of not only the local population but also any visitors is a fundamental responsibility of the Mirarr.

Mahbilil is known and loved as a vibrant showcase and celebration of Kakadu culture. We look forward to being able to welcome visitors back to enjoy all that the festival and this region has to offer when the time is right
